rom small beginnings 21 years ago, Restoration Ministries has grown into a powerful ministry with a local and regional voice and a growing international influence.
On March 10th 1985, a service was conducted with a congregation of three, in a small house in Deighton Road, St Michael, Barbados. This marked the beginning of the realization of a vision that had been received eight years earlier. The visionary was a youthful David Durant, who received a word from God while participating in a pioneering venture in Guyana. So strong was the impartation that it was written down immediately and communicated to his wife, Joy and the congregation.
This gave birth to the mission statement of Restoration Ministries which is the same unto this day. "We exist to glorify God among the nations, Pioneer evangelism, Church planting and making strong disciples for Jesus, who in the power of the Holy Spirit will propagate a holistic gospel and will affect their communities."
By 1988 the small gathering had outgrown the house and a building was leased in Laynes Road, Brittons Hill. St Michael. By this time the church had become well know as Revival Assembly and the membership continued to grow. Again, in less than ten years, a growth spurt caused a change in venue. So in 1994 arrangements were made for Sunday services to be held in the auditorium of the Garrison Secondary School. One year later, the congregation moved to a still larger venue - the Horatio Cook Auditorium, at the headquarters of the National Union of Public Workers.
The name Restoration Ministries was birthed in 1996 and the church went through a name change from Revival Assemble. This enabled greater emphasis to be placed on the restoration of all things, according to Acts 3: 21, this is a foundational basis for the church’s existence.
Throughout the growth process and resultant venue changes, one very noticeable feature was the absolute commitment of church members to the vision as they carried out tasks such as transporting and setting up of equipment and chairs for every service.
The search for accommodation ended at Gunsite Road, Bonnett’s Avenue. Brittons Hill, St Michael. For seven months the Pastor, his wife Joy and three sons, David Jr. Jonathan and Christopher, along with the congregation, assembled the tent on this site, while the Leadership of the church forged ahead with the process of acquiring the property.
Finally, on October 10th, 1997 the congregation transformed the interior of the building that had stood on the site for many years and moved in to conduct service with great celebration and thanks to Almighty God.
